Abrasive Polishing of Stainless Steel Spherical Bridge Bearings
At P & C Metal Polishing, Inc., we specialize in the abrasive polishing of stainless steel and can provide up to a #8 mirror finish on a variety of component shapes and sizes. The parts shown here are spherical bridge bearings that are used to support high vertical loads and structural rotation within a bridge. Although these bearings only measure 18” in diameter and 6” in height, they are solid stainless steel, making them very heavy and somewhat difficult to handle. We are adept at handling heavy, large, or otherwise awkward parts, and can accommodate complex designs to provide a consistent surface finish within customer defined tolerances.
These bearings required a #8 mirror finish with a maximum of 32 Ra, which we were able to meet and exceed. The surface was visually inspected and quantitatively measured using a profilometer. This project was brought to us by a repeat customer who chose us as a direct result of the quality of work we had provided on previous projects. A total of 36 of these bridge bearings were polished with a turnaround time of two weeks.
